Blood work day.  We had all sorts of tests run in November when we had our physicals but we didn’t know we needed an HIV blood test.  The HIV blood test is one of the health questions China is interested in.  We also submitted the Health form to Dr. Parker today for him to fill out.  I hope he can complete it quickly.

Today I signed up for a FedEx account.  I know what does that have to do with adoption??  I talked to Denise at ICPC (DSS) and she said that she was done and approved our Home Study.  Becky and I wanted to sent the Home Study to INS in Atlanta as fast as possible so that is why we got the FedEx account.  Hopefully we will get our Home Study to the INS Tuesday or Wednesday for approval and since we are boring people they will process it fast and grant us approval.

Ok, we are not criminals and I have the paperwork to prove it.  Just because we signed up for Passports today doesn’t mean we are going to flea the country.  Hey, we decided on a name for the kid, Morgan we’ve like that name for some time.  We chose that name because of Becky’s family’s history with Pirates and I just like the name the way is sounds when I yell.  You know common parenting phrases like Morgan NO!!, MORGAN Put That Down, and  MORGAN Don’t Put That Up Your Nose!!!!  You bet I’m ready for parenthood.  I’m a Natural.

We put the home study in the mail today to GWCA for their review before authentication.  We still need to get the police and medical reports.  We’ve been to the post office a few times to get our passports but they were closed and then we found out they don’t process them past 4 pm.  Silly us thinking that just because the post office is open until 5 that we could get our passports taken care of until 5.  What were we thinking.  We’ll try again another day this week.  Got additional birth certificates today for Becky and Pete mailed one of his to PA to be authenticated for the dossier package.  We’ll get the medical forms filled out in March at our next Dr.’s visit.  We’ll take our final set of documents to the Secretary’s office for authentication after the medical forms are completed while waiting on INS.

Today we had a holiday for President’s day and spent it visiting with Fred, for a little while, and with Grandma Rutledge shopping for other necessary items for the babies room.  Those items include the batting for the crib comforter and bumper pads.  Yes, by this information you have probably guessed where most of the day was spent, in the fabric store.  What a way to spend your day off.  At least we “saved a lot of  money”.  We also got an email from Cindi and Bill that they mailed their adoption agreement and check to Great Wall.  Yahoo!  Their final home study visit was today so we all hope things went well.  With June, it had to.  We also got more great advice today from Fred and LaWanna.  We’re very glad we met them not only for their help but mainly for their friendship.

Today we rearranged the furniture in the babies room.  We are making room for a crib which we have been fortunate enough to borrow form our god children’s parents.  It really helps to have life long friends.  We are still going through everything in the house and weeding out what we really don’t need to keep to make room for a new addition to the family.  We also started the shopping for small bookcases.

YAHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Fred and LaWanna have gotten their INS approval after a grueling 5 months.  We are so happy for them.  They still need to have their dossier package authenticated and translated before it can be sent to China but they are one step closer.  Can’t wait to see little Terry when they finally get her home!  Some of our news today includes buying the fabric to make the crib bedding.  The fabric is beautiful and the babies room is ending up to be the fanciest room in the house.  We may all move in there.  Grandma Creighton helped pick out the fabric for the bedding and Grandma Rutledge helped pick out the curtain material a few weeks ago.  Yes, we failed to add that to the journal then but better late than never.  This is becoming a real family affair.  Although the fabrics have been a little pricey, we are still coming out ahead of the game on the cost and on a one of a kind room.  We may get stuck with a large dry cleaning bill but our daughter will have a beautiful room, which is all that matters.

Got an Email from June saying “in the mail” referring to our Home Study so Ya Hoo!!! We are moving on to the DSS and INS stage.  We also got 3 copies of our Home Study and are sending a copy to Great Wall.  I hope our Home Study gets processed quickly.  We have been enjoying the updates that Cindi & Bill have been copying us in on about Kim’s adventure in China to get Emily.  Reading Kim’s updates just makes waiting all the harder.  We had our passport photos taken today and now remember why we take scenery pictures.  Oh well!

Ya Hoo!!!  Once again another exciting step taken in the adoption process.  Our Home Study is going to be submitted to DSS for approval.  We have heard that this review is rather quick and painless.  Yesterday we finally got confirmation from GWCA that our Home Study was Ok for INS & China.  The only comment GWCA had was that there was nothing about religion in the Home Study.  If you know me I have my own goofy ideas about religion so we asked June to put some generic statement about religion in the Home Study for us.  We do plan to start the child out in church and later let them choose for them self.  Understand that China is officially atheist according to the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency).  I have connections, I could tell you more but I would have to kill you.  Note: we are very slowly figuring out how to speak Mandarin, however we are probably massacring such an ancient and complicated language, it’s fun none the less.  We visited LaWanna and kept her up late sharing stories and discussing the difference between adoption agencies.  It’s late so I’ll save the rest for the next time.

Today we mailed our Home Study to June for comments and completion.  I miss meeting with June, she’s a lot of fun.  Abbi from GWCA said she was going to get back to us today but this update will be posted at 10:00 pm Monday and all we got from GWCA was an email saying we are looking at it and an answer to one of our questions.  All we were asking for was some feedback on our Home Study.  I’m still not happy with GWCA yet. We also sent an email announcing to my Aunt, Uncle and family that we are adopting.
