2 Months Down
Two months down and 5 or 6 more to travel time as long as China keeps up with the new referral time frame of 6 months. For me it’s moving pretty fast, although Becky would probably say it’s not moving fast enough, she wants to go NOW!!!! We are hoping to travel in Nov. and at the latest, Dec. We want the special Christmas gift. We have been keeping busy meeting with Kim and Emmie for dinner, speculating and planning with LaWanna and working on the house. We have probably seen Kim and Emmie about once a week for dinner over the last month. If I haven’t said it before, Emmie is the cutest little girl. If we get a little girl half as cute as Emmie, we’ll be lucky. Kim deserves all the credit for Emmie. She got her 4 months ago from China and Wow what a well adjusted little girl. Emmie is only 16 months and she is already starting to speak english. She can even say Pete. I’m such a sucker. We were in UNO, a pizza restaurant where we met Kim and Emmie for dinner one night. After eating and a few brief minutes of adult talk, Emmie got restless so I took her and spent the next hour and a half greeting and entertaining the people in the restaurant. We would walk around the restaurant, Emmie holding my finger, and I would be hunched over feeling like Hagred from Harry Potter. I know Kim thinks that we are just there to see Emmie but we are also happy to see and listen to Kim’s adventure in China, hope she knows that. Kim has been a wealth of information and a new good friend to both of us! We wish we had more time to spend with them but getting our house ready is taking all our spare time. We never slowed down this weekend. We had to come back to work to get some rest. Kim started an FCC sub-group for waiting families that we attended and my parents came with us. I wanted them to see just what we were getting ourselves into. I think they are getting excited as well. The next week we met Kim, Emmie and LaWanna for dinner and Becky’s Mom went with us to meet the gang. I know Becky’s Mom is excited. LaWanna and Becky, Thank God they are friends. There are things Fred and I just don’t understand. They must talk at least once a night. The FCC meeting was a lot of fun. Two families came with their children to help Kim field our questions and it was comforting to see how well their girls were doing and how open and excited they were for us. There were two couples that also attended who will be leaving for China at the end of the month to get their girls. It will be interesting to see how their trips go. Saw a National Geographic Ultimate Explorer show about “China’s Lost Girls”. If you get a chance to see the show I highly recommend it. The show documents the population problem in China and the gender gap between boys and girls. It also documents a portion of the adoption process while in China, focusing mostly on a family from Atlanta, GA going to adopt a second daughter. It was really interesting to get the perspective of the Chinese people about adoptions and the limit on children but also disturbing to see there is no urgency on the governments part to try and resolve the male/female ratio. The great thing was that we got to see visually what we are going to experience when we go get Morgan. It helps take away a little of the unknown. Happy News! I would like to say that we are now making some major progress on the house. The deck still needs to be completed with the rail installation and additional steps but it has gotten too hot so we moved inside. We’ll finish the deck in the fall. The shelf is up in the baby’s room and Becky and Ruth (Becky’s Mom) finished the crib skirt and the comforter. Now, we have to prime and paint the shelf then we can move all the stuffed animals out of the crib (see the pictures). Becky has to make a cushion cover for the rocker mom gave us that she used with me as a baby. It’s really comfortable. We also have Becky’s tiny rocker that was hers as a child that we will recover as well. The mural still needs to go up and then we have the child sized table, chairs and coat rack to finish painting. We found great Chinese lanterns at Target that we are going to install under the shelf for soft lighting and Becky and her mom found these great garden fairies at Biltmore that we will hang from the shelf in front of the mural. The should sparkle with the lantern lighting. We’re getting very close to finishing Morgan’s room which will be an awesome feeling then on to the rest of the house. Slowly, we are pairing down what we have in the house which feels really good! Some of the Yahoo adoption groups on the internet, that we are members of, have traded postcards and are now starting Cyber Showers. Becky is having a blast with that. Do you know how hard it is to find a postcard in a city like Columbia? We’ve done the postcard swap twice and it’s been fun seeing all of them, especially the ones from out of the country. We plan to make a collage or either a list of the sayings to post on the website.
