5 Months Down

Let’s see this is what has happened since the last time I posted on this site. I’ve made many minor improvements to the Baby web page. Maybe you noticed them the last time you visited the site. Several weeks ago, Becky and LaWanna hosted an FCC Waiting Families get together in Lexington that I though was very successful. Only one of the families with older children showed up, the Filaseta’s. They are a really nice family with two biological girls and two adopted girls from China. Apparently, the Midlands FCC group doesn’t seem to want to be involved with those of us without children. We still had a blast. I got to play with all the kids and I’m not sure who had a better time, me or the kids. The event was held at a Chinese restaurant and I think the people running the restaurant were more confused than anything else. I’m sure they were thinking why do these people have Asian children?? I’m slowly finding out that it’s not common knowledge about Americans adopting Chinese babies within the US Chinese community. The only problem with the FCC Waiting Families is that Becky and I are one of the last families waiting to go to China to get our child. We need to get new blood in the group. We have had several new families referred to us from June Bond but they never respond to our email. Oh well, that’s their loss. Perhaps we’ll have to break away from the Midlands FCC and form our own FCC group. Who knows, it’s an idea. Becky and Mike Sullivan set up a get together for us to meet with Mike, his wife Kelli and their two kids Ellen and Andrew for dinner. Mike and Kelli are going to give us a shower for Morgan. The get together didn’t quite turn out as planned. We met with Kelli and Ellen at AC Moore while Mike went home and tried to sooth a teething Andrew. Being a 5 year old, Ellen is very busy and she and I didn’t have much patience for watching Kelli and Becky so we went off on our own in the store. From there, Ellen and I started to get in trouble (it was all Ellen’s fault, I was an angel). Ellen is a Great kid, I’ve never seen that kind of personality in a 5 year old. I had a blast! She was talking to me like she knew everything and what’s wrong with me, why don’t I know. Of course I was just giving her a hard time. The best part was when Kelli came to separate us. Ellen would hide behind Kelli and then look at me and shake her finger at me while mouthing the words “I’m gonna get you”. That was Great! Ellen is one of a kind, a Great kid. EBAY… We have been EBAY selling fools. I never thought someone would pay me money for some of the crap Becky and I have accumulated through the years. We are not getting rich but we are getting junk out of the house and cash in our pocket to help pay for this adoption, so Yahoo for EBAY. The emails from GWCA are starting to become more informative regarding our situation. Our situation is that we are about a month away from our referral. We can’t wait. LaWanna and Fred are days away from their referral and seem to be doing well considering. Oh, we went to a store called the Hobby Lobby and got some large decorations for our live Christmas tree that we are going to get and plant in the back yard. We also got some Santa hats that we are going to take to China for our Family Christmas photo. This Labor day weekend we met at Fred and LaWanna’s house with Kim and EmmaLi. That was fun. EmmaLi was barking at Daisy, a full size Great Dane. EmmaLi was about the size of Daisy’s head and she wasn’t afraid at all. Later that evening, after many beers on Fred & LaWanna’s new deck, we enjoyed conversation about our future babies. We can’t wait!!!! The next day, we met Kim, EmmaLi, Fred and LaWanna at the Zoo. Kim told us that EmmaLi was fussing until she told her that they were going to see Pete. Later we met with Christina, Gordon and Jackie at the Zoo. Some day we will get this Zoo thing worked out where we all meet at the same entrance at the same time. Becky and I are as guilty as anyone for being late at the Zoo. Labor Day… We had my parents come over and bring their neighbor Fay and her parents for lunch. Fay and her family are from Shanghai, China. We had a fantastic time. Fay’s parents didn’t speak much English so we hope we made them feel at home. We showed them Morgans room and explained the adoption process to them. Fay was Great and very inquisitive about the adoption and we were also trying to find out as much information about China as possible from her. Fay and her family are super nice people. Oh, for lunch, we served Hudson’s bar-b-q and Fay brought beef and snow peas. The beef and snow peas were really good. We told Fay and her family that we would have to have them over again for Frogmore stew (Low country boil or Beaufort stew). Frogmore Stew is really: shrimp, sausage, corn, potatoes, onions, Old Bay seasoning. Let’s not forget Beer (peejo) that is served with the stew. I now know that “peejo” is the Chinese word for beer. I may not have spelled it right but that’s what it sounds like. I feel knowing the Chinese word for beer will be very important for me in China. Next time, we’ll invite Kim and EmmaLi over when Fay and her family visit. If you think I’m unusually positive and that I’ve used the word “Great” too much, it’s because everything about this adoption experience has been Great and positive. Even the few bumps we’ve hit seem insignificant when we look back. We just can’t wait to be parents. We’ve been waiting for this for 8 years too long!
