Hang on, I have a feeling that this will start getting fast and frantic as we approach our travel date. No, we don’t have our TA (Trave Authorization) yet, we are waiting for CCAA to invite us over to get Morgan. We hope it comes soon.

On to the Travel stage

Work, Work, Work. I’ve been going to work and crashing at home the weather has been overcast for the past several days and I haven’t been motivated to do much at all. Becky as usually has been working overtime coming home and washing all the clothes for the baby and me. I have a Great wife. Like I told my cousin when his now wife was planning their wedding. I told him to just duck and stay out of her way she’s on a mission. Well, Becky is on the Baby mission and she is nesting, Big time. I’ve found it easier to just be support right now. From all I’ve seen Becky will make a Great Mom. This kid is really lucky. We just got an email today and this closes the referral chapter and we now move on to the OH MY GOD!!! We have to pack to go to China. Since we got our referral we have been getting increasingly more anxious. We thought that the waiting would get easier with the referral but it was the exact opposite. We know the child we are going to get and want her now!! We want to get her out of that orphanage and into our home to shower her with Love and Attention. We are bursting with excitement at the thought that we will no longer be DINKs (Double Income No Kids). Oh, Becky submitted some paperwork for money from DSS today, didn’t want to forget that. We have to apply before we get Morgan. Becky hand delivered the paperwork to DSS and she attached a picture to the paperwork to kind of humanize our situation. The lady at DSS was very happy to see the picture and she said that Morgan looked like Becky. I know that comment probably just sent Becky soaring with excitement. On to the Travel stage of the process. Things are moving fast now Hope I can keep up.

Well it turns out that we do need a Home Study (HS) Update for Morgan. We asked for a child 0 to 12 months and Morgan will be 12 months and a few days and the US Consulate will have a problem with that. Also today we got an email translating even more of the referral documents for us. It turns out that Chuan Ke’s bio parents cared enough to abandon her at the orphanage the day after she was born, their loss. Basically the rest of the information stated that Chuan Ke was a normal little girl. Becky was searching the Yahoo groups and found a group for families with children from the orphanage that Chuan Ke is currently at. It made us feel good to know that there are others like us that have such a strong bond to these little girls. Apparently the group likes to refer to the girls as “Fu girls”. Fu is the orphanage family last name and all children from this orphanage have the last name Fu. Did you know that Fu means Luck in Chinese and Fu Chuan Ke is a very lucky little girl or I should be saying that Becky and I are the lucky ones. Becky and I are the LUCKY ones.

Wow, my Grandma Creighton called me. She never calls unless she is looking for my Father. Sure I get cards and I do know she likes to keep in touch by writing, but I don’t so our letters are few and far between. For Grandma she seemed excited, we had sent her the pictures and a letter about her future Grand Daughter Morgan Chuan Ke Creighton. She told me that she took the pictures to dinner with her and showed everyone at her table. I can’t tell you how happy that made me. Perhaps I should explain that Grandma Creighton is currently my only surviving Grand parent, she lives in Pittsburgh where I grew up in a very nice retirement home. I don’t get to see her as much as I would like to. But, I can’t tell you how much that phone call meant to me. We’ll need to keep sending photos when we get Morgan home.

We got the FedEx tracking number yesterday and the web site said that the packet will be at my office by 10:30am. So I made an attempt to do some work and even managed to get something done. Around noon I saw the FedEx ground truck pull up and walk in the door so I tracked the guy down and signed for 2 packages. I looked the FedEx guy in the eye and said “You have another package for me!!” and he looked back and said “Nope that’s it.”. Once again my Jedi powers of the Force let me down. At that moment I realized that he was FedEx Ground and that he was right he probably didn’t have it. I decided to call FedEx since it was well past 10:30. They told me that they were running 3 hours behind. Now Becky has been in an all day meeting and would call my cell phone every chance she had to see if the package arrived. I knew that I couldn’t go home empty handed, I had people to answer to (Becky). Surprisingly Becky was taking the waiting time better than I was. I think as the time gets closer the more it is beginning to agitate me. I’m ready to go. Becky and I have talked and I don’t think having the picture helped, I think it made the waiting worse. We are so close and now we have a name and face to go with our goal. Anyway, around 3:00 I got a call from Barbara up front letting me know that the FedEx truck is here. I got up and ran to the front of the building and basically grabbed the packet from the guy and ran into Barbara’s office to open up the envelope where the original photos were neatly attached to all the other documents. I made out what I could on the descriptions of Fu Chuan Ke but did I mention I can’t read Chinese?? I called Becky and told her that I got the packet and at 4:00 I went home. I ran up stairs to our home office and started to fill out the forms for the referral acceptance so they were ready for Becky to sign when she got home. Becky double checked the info and we signed the document. LaWanna, Fred’s wife offered to have Fred put the package on the plane since he worked for FedEx and we wanted a quick turn around. I would say 3 hours in our possession was quick. Thank you LaWanna & Fred your Great friends. We then posted on the Yahoo Groups that our referral was signed and on it’s way back.

Sunday afternoon Michele and the twins came to visit and see the room. I had a blast with Micaela & Brianna. Micaela would lead me around as the three of us caught clouds and tied them up. Don’t ask me we were having fun and I was accepted as a part of the gang. With me playing with the twins Becky and Michele got to talk. That’s my job to play and run interference with the kids so that Becky can ask questions. I think I have the better end of the deal. Apparently Michele was surprised that her girls took to me so quickly, but I say hey what’s not to like. Like I tell everyone little girls love me it’s when they become women my Jedi mind tricks begin to fail me.

The house was just about ready. We had a few loads of junk to donate to His House (a local Goodwill) then had to get ready for the party. Friends of ours Marie and Debbie put on a joint shower that was Fantastic. A GREAT BIG THANK YOU to Marie and Debbie for hosting the baby shower for us. Becky and I had a Blast and we hope everyone else did as well. We also can’t thank everyone that attended enough for showing their excitement and support. Oh, and did I mention a Great Big THANK YOU for all the gifts for Morgan. Morgan will be a truly luck little girl from the showing of family and friends.

I went into work on cloud 9 not allowing a single person to walk by my office without making them look at the photos of my daughter. As you might think I didn’t get much accomplished that day. We did send out several Mass E-Mails to everyone we know and the congratulatory emails quickly followed, or should I say the much appreciated congratulatory emails. I got home and kind of helped clean the house for our first Baby Shower. Becky and her parents deserve almost all the credit for cleaning the house. Did I mention that the house looked Great. So much happened the past few days I’m sure this will be amended to ad things I forgot. We did take a brake to go out and celebrate together at a nice restaurant called Brix. That was a good day as well.

Referral Day

* WPG2 CANNOT LOCATE GALLERY2 ITEM ID 67 *After days of speculating when we’ll get the phone call the day is finally here. We got an email from GWCA letting us know that the Stork has arrived. Being the workaholic that I am; Ha Ha, I sat patiently waiting for the call then I had to leave my desk to go to the Main Campus to meet with a contractor. When I was done and driving back my cell phone rang and there was a number I didn’t recognize on the caller ID. When I answered the phone I knew it GWCA calling about the referral. Now I’ll usually drive and talk on the phone because I’m very talented, but this time I pulled over into the middle of the road because I didn’t want to miss anything. They told me that they tried both of Becky’s phones and she didn’t pick up so they called me. I got the information about Fu Chuan Ke (the name of our new daughter) and we laughed about my concern that I’m going to get an ugly child. Emily reassured me that Fu Chuan Ke was a beautiful child. I must admit when Emily was describing Chuan Ke as having full lips and big round eyes the images that I imagined in my head were not that pretty. I called Becky as soon as I got off the phone with GWCA and told her the news. I think she was in shock. She was a bit disappointed that she missed the call but was glad part of the waiting was over. I rushed back to my office where I was waiting rather impatiently for the photos. I have to admit I cheated and looked at the pictures before I sent them to Becky, but I had trouble with the attachment so I saw the photo anyway. Chuan Ke is BEAUTIFUL!!! She’s perfect in every way. When I saw the photos of Chuan Ke I was in tears I was so happy. First of all the wait and journey was almost over and second the child is so Beautiful. We couldn’t ask for a prettier child. Becky was still in shock even when she saw the photos. Becky called her parents and sister and I called my parents. Becky’s parents were so excited to see the pictures of their first Grand Child they rushed over to the house giving us only enough time to print out a few copies of the photos for them. Once Becky’s parents left we lit off another 1000 firecrackers to celebrate. Our neighbors came out, probably to see what all the racket was but quickly learned that we got pictures of our future daughter. They knew the excitement we were going through since both of their children were adopted. That was a Great day. Oh, let me gush I have a BEAUTIFUL DAUGHTER!!!
