Becky got the Money Orders and I finished the forms for our FedEx to a Washington courier. Before we got Morgan we double checked some questions with GWCA and put the envelope in the bin for overnight delivery.

We went to see my parents Nan & Papa. Once we got home we realized that we need to get our Sh#* together for mailing the package tomorrow. Imagine lots of running around trying to not wake Morgan up while making copies of documents.

Becky and Morgan went to get their nails done for a little Mother Daughter bonding. I think it worked. Morgan also got to see Grandma, Grandpa and Great Aunt Ann for a while. Oh, got a call about the truck, it’s the transmission, SURPRISE!!! It was time for a financial decision, so we are getting the transmission rebuilt. We really weren’t ready for a big car payment and this second adoption. The plan has been and always has been to get a new Minivan in 2008 after the adoption of Isabelle.

Finally news about the truck it’s the transmission, you need a new one, that’ll be $91.00 for that diagnosis, Thanks Ford. Then I go to the SC Secretary of State to get the HS last page and they don’t know what I’m talking about. So I called June and got Amy her assistant. The SC Secretary of State mailed it back to June, it was in Greenville. Being very lucky like I am, except when I play the lottery, Amy, June’s assistant was going to Colombia this evening and she was willing to meet us and give us the Certified HS. How cool is that. Still can’t say enough good things about June, she and Adoption Advocacy have always gone out of their way for us. Ok we have the last 3 documents to send to Washington and no Money orders and it was 6:30pm Friday evening. What did we do? We did what we always do and that was wait, put it off, ProCrastinate. Until Monday.

Well the truck problem threw us into a panic state because I’m getting ready to start a new job in a week and a half. So the Minivan issue became a hot topic. If you have ever done a Chinese adoption you know that you spend a lot of money on the front-end and at the end, we were at the front end and had no money for a new/used car. I surfed the net and called some places looking for a cheap car while at work anticipating the worst. Our Minivan nightmare was becoming a reality. We already knew that our next vehicle was going to be a Minivan, just not so soon. We were hoping to have this last adoption out of the way before we needed another vehicle. With all the excitement I we forgot to go to the SC Secretary of State to get the HS last page. We did test drive 2 Minivan’s at Carmax and were impressed with the Mazda MPV. Becky’s parent’s got Morgan for us at Daycare. Ooo, our new food obsession has been Thai food so we drown our sorrows in Chicken Pad Thai and Green Curry. Oh and the Ford dealer was too busy to get to my truck, Thanks Ford.

Becky went to the SC Secretary of State to get the I-171-H notary form and our Home Study Certified. It turns out that the notary for the HS was out of date and had been for almost 2 years and didn’t know it. I called June as soon as Becky told me and she put a new notarized copy of the last page of the HS in a FedEx overnight to the SC Secretary of State for us to pick up the next day. Wouldn’t you know it the transmission on our 95’ Explored decided to very suddenly DIE. It was still drivable but it needed help quick. I called the Ford dealer and got an appointment for the next day.

Friday (08/04/06) Morgan kept me up half the night it’s either teething (her last two 2year old molars) or she had to pee (we did that twice in the middle of the night) or something else or everything. Anyway I slept in and not well be cause Morgan was ready to get up and greet the day and I wasn’t. Finally I got her dressed and to Day Care. It was Show-n-Tell and the theme was the 5 senses so we bought a bunch of carnations for her class. Morgan loved that, yep she’s a flower child literally. Anyway before we left the house we got a call from GWCA so I returned the call. It was about being a regional rep for GWCA, Becky was interested. However they had read our Journal and didn’t like some of the things we had to say about GWCA the first go around when we were adopting Morgan. They quoted something from our Journal and I told them at the time we were very upset with them and that’s how we felt. So far our experience with GWCA seems to be much better. Perhaps it’s because we are much more relaxed this time, I don’t know. Understand when we would talk to people that had used GWCA before us they didn’t know any of the staff names we mentioned and most of the staff we were working with weren’t even with the agency a year yet. Anyway we have so far had a very positive experience with GWCA. You know in hind sight once you have the child you don’t remember any of the bad times, you’re a parent you don’t have time. Being a parent you too busy focused on the here and now and the future. Morgan was worth every bit of the wait from the day I first found out Becky was pregnant to Morgan’s Gotcha Date she was worth the 8 year wait.

Thursday (08/03/06) June emailed us the Home Study to review. Looks great to me, who are these people called the Creighton Family?? Just kidding. We forwarded our marked up copy to Carrie at GWCA who I must say has been great. Either it’s we are more relaxed this time or GWCA has made big improvements in dealing with their clients. I still had to laugh when we got an email from GWCA letting us know that they have received our contract and our first payment and that we will be receiving an email from our Dossier Consultant in 5 to 7 days. Here we have been working with Carrie at GWCA for at least a week or 2 already. I told Carrie that we have kind of adopted her as our unofficial Dossier Consultant she didn’t seem to mind. Once again we are way ahead of GWCA, although I must admit we had a head start. Becky had sometime last night while I put Morgan to bed to review the documents. She had some changes to the cover letters, nothing major but it was appreciated. She and I make quite a good team although I do lean on her too much.

Wednesday (08/02/06) I was a copy and form filling out fool, so much so I took the afternoon off to complete the work. Becky got a call from the West Columbia Police letting her know that our corrected Police Reports were ready and I went to pick them up. Becky told me about a wall in the SC State Secretary’s office with pictures of a bunch of adopted children that have had documents come through that office. The lady (Pat I think her name is) was showing me some of the latest photos and was pointing out Morgan. It took her a moment to catch on that I was telling her that Morgan was my daughter. Then we had lots to talk about. I also got a call from our Social Worker telling us that we need to get her a Money Order for SC DSS ICPC (South Carolina Department of Social Services Interstate Compact Bla Bla Bla, Does it really matter?) to review our Home Study. We didn’t remember having to do that last time but since we trust June our Social Worker I got it and about 9:00pm I met Bill, June’s husband at a Hardee’s parking lot to hand him the Money Order. Bill’s a Great guy I enjoyed meeting him. Becky had to get Morgan to sleep so she didn’t get to meet Bill. Anyway we got most of the stuff together and didn’t have time to double check the documents.
