Domestication (Part 4)
Filed Under Morgan | Leave a Comment
Ok, after fumbling through the domestication process I think we are getting close. After getting the documents from SC DHEC Vital Records and sitting on them for about a month and a half we finally took a day off and delivered a copy to our County Clerk of Courts. Once again no matter how cheery we appear it still takes these people some time to warm up to us. Almost like we have to hold their hand and reassure them that no this is not a child support payment but a good thing like getting our daughters US birth certificate. Need less to say I took Morgan and walked out of the room before I said something that might sour the moment. So Morgan and I sat outside the room discussing why there’s metal detectors and guards at the front entrance. Being married for 12 years has taught me something and that is there is a time for me to get involved and a time for Becky to handle it. This was a Becky moment and as usual she pulled it off enlisting the help of all the women behind the counter eventually so that she understood what was going to happen. In this case I’m the heavy if Becky’s charm doesn’t work (but it usually does, she’s good). Now we wait to see if the judge just signs the documents or if a court date is set. Tracy from DHEC (Thank you Tracy for putting up with me) gave us a letter stating that DHEC will not challenge the domestication order so now we wait, again. If you learn nothing else during an adoption of a child you learn patience. Boy have we learned to be patient. Wow wee have we learned to be patient. Every thing is hurry up and wait. But I know something that the new adoptive parents only think they know. That at the end it’s all worth the wait. Don’t believe me take a look a Morgan our daughter. She was worth the wait. Oh, the domestication made the adoption paperwork look like a walk in the park. Really we found the directions afterward but they really didn’t say much to help explain the process. Anyway WE ARE ALMOST DONE!!!!! YEA!!!!
Anyway now it’s up to the judge. We hope to hear from him soon to close this chapter and move on to a new one.
