My friend Tom sent me an email and this is what it said:

I find the term “clunker” to be offensive and derogatory, so I’m starting the Clunker Anti-Defamation League.

These were older cars, true. Gas guzzlers, true. But they were valued members of our families for many years.

I propose we refer to these cars as “cherished cars” or “formerly new cars”.

Your thoughts?

I have to say that after thinking about it I agree, the term “clunker” is being used as stereotype to describe an old and trusted friend.

Our 95 Ford Explorer has been an important part our family it’s entire life, for 14 years from birth until (sniff) death.  We have had many fond memories of that SUV from trips to Disney World to New Orleans to Nashville to Pittsburgh we have been all over the South-Eastern US in that vehicle.  It has been a loyal and trusted means of conveyance and will be missed.

But what does it say about someone that will sell out a trusted partner for $4,500 and a new more efficient vehicle the moment it was offered?  Parents and In-Laws beware…
